Historical Development of the Department

  1. The Uva Province Revenue Department has been established under the Uva Provincial Financial Statue No. 08 of 1990.
  2. The main purpose is to act as the pioneer in the revenue collection of the Uva Provincial council within the boundaries imposed on the subject of provincial revenue collection in terms of the 13th amendment to the constitution.
  3. The collection of the turnover tax which was done by the Island Revenue Department before the establishment of provincial council was brought under the provincial Revenue Department after the establishment of provincial councils.
  4. The Uva Provincial Revenue Department which was started in 1991 by recruiting and attaching the officer of the Inland Revenue Department has been expanded with the recruitment of required staff.
  5. Taking into consideration the geographical expansion of the Uva Province,the Regional Office of the Uva Provincial Revenue Department was established in Maneragala in the year 2000. The Head Office was established in Badulla and the Department is functioning under the Revenue Commissioner of the Uva Province.
  6. The collection of turnover tax as 34 million in 1991 and it ws able to  increased upto 75 million in 1999. The revenue target for the year 2008 was 359 million and it was able to collect 395 million. The 447 million of target turnover tax exceeded as 454 in 2009. Accordingly it will be able to exceed the total amount of revenue collection of 625 million.

  8. There are 6735 files opened regarding business entities that come under the payment of turnover taxes in the Uva Province and new files are also being opened frequently.
  9. Action is taken in coordination with the land registrar offices at Badulla and Moneragala to examine the payment of stamp fee on the deeds prepared in connection with the transfers of immovable properties in the province and to recover the correct stamp fee.
